Distribution and density of whitespotted stink bug in the Delta

Every year between 1999 and 2003 PROBODELT has established the distribution and density of whitespotted stink bug on the Delta rice fields (maps). The results of all these years show clearly that the density of whitespotted stink bug on the rice fields is kept very low and its distribution varies a lot from one year to another. As it is, one cannot say that there are areas more prone than others to have whitespotted stink bug attacks.

Establishing the threshold for whitespotted stink bug treatment in the Delta

This threshold is established from two essential aspects: a) the connection between the whitespotted stink bug levels throughout the season, and b) the connection between the density of whitespotted stink bug and the percentage of stung grains in the crop. This is an ongoing study and conclusive results are still pending.

In short, these ongoing studies aim at establishing, in a rigorous way, the scope of the whitespotted stink bug problem in the Delta and optimizing the necessary tools for a possible sensible control strategy.
